For Race Participants:
-
If the race director has signed up for
RouteMapper:
If the race director has NOT
signed up for Route Mapper:
-
Check with the race
director to make sure that they are okay with you carrying the
device. You can tell them that there is no output available to
you, so its not possible to cheat using the device.
-
Everything works the same
as described below, except that you'll place your rental order
with us. Reserve as soon as you know you are doing the race,
as we have limited quantities of the rental devices on hand.
-
Follow the instructions
received along with the rental device.
-
Send the device back to
us in the prepaid package, and we'll build your map and post it online for you to view.
For Race Directors:
-
How it works:
-
Each team will be given a
tracking device that records there whereabouts during the entire
race. The device is small, lightweight and placed in a
durable waterproof container. Near the start of the race,
all teams need to turn on their device. It is recommended
that race-morning checkin procedures include distributing the
turned-on device. Once turned on, nothing further needs to be
done, other than each team carrying the device at all times during
the race.
-
Collect all of the
devices as each team completes the race, and turn them off.
Send them back to us here at RouteMapper, and within a day or two
we'll have extracted and processed the data and built the race
map.
-
Once the map is up,
anyone can go and review it.
-
Logistics:
-
As you plan your races
and decide to include RouteMapping, place a reservation with us so
that we can guarantee we'll have the devices ready for your race.
An approximate team count is helpful but not set in stone at this
time.
-
About 2 weeks out from
the race date, place your official order for the devices,
including exact team count. If you expect late
registrations, be sure to order enough extra to cover these.
-
We'll ship you the
package so that it arrives in plenty of time before the
race. Included are complete instructions on how to work the
devices, the devices themselves (which are basically ready to go),
flyers to give to each team telling them about the device and
where to go to see the results, and return packaging.
-
Distribute the devices to
the teams on race day morning, turning them on as you give them
out. Make sure each team carries their device with them the
entire race.
-
Collect them as each team
finishes, and turn them off.
-
Ship them back to us in
the packaging provided. Include with the shipment the race
clue sheets with the UTM or Lat/Lng coordinates of the
checkpoints, and the clue for each. These are required to
show the checkpoints on the maps.
-
Benefits to you:
-
Increased participation
in your races! When racers see the benefits of the system,
they'll want to do races that use RouteMapper.
-
Better visibility into
the routes chosen by teams, to better plan for your future race
courses.
-
Post-race verification
that all teams followed all of the rules. More satisfied racers as
they have assurance that the race was fair.
-
Benefits to your
participants:
-
See what routes each team
chose. Helps post-race analysis of where each team needs to
improve.
-
See where your team went
astray. Couldn't find that checkpoint? Wondering how
close you were? Now you can know for sure!
-
Did you go out too fast
and then slow down too much? The time points shown will give
you visibility into this.
-
Improved
navigation. As you analyze your route choices and mistakes
post-race, you'll better learn from your mistakes.
-
Pricing:
-
The entire package is
available for the low price of $20 per team (1 device rental per
team). This covers all
expenses for shipping, packaging and return shipment. Map
data will be available online for a minimum of 2 years, although
its expected that we'll keep it up perpetually.
